Whoever moves 1 million tonnes of fuel around per year has be very safety conscious. We bear a responsibility for the environment, to the people who work and live nearby, and to our customers. The HGM Terminal is under constant monitoring to make sure that it conforms to the newest and strictest safety standards.
How we protect the ground water and soil.
All tanks at the HGM Terminal are monitored around the clock with the most up-to-date safety technology in order to prevent contamination of soil and groundwater.
Working towards emission reduction.
By using a Vapour Recovery Unit HGM Energy is playing its part in emission reduction and the protection of the climate. Gases that form in the storage tanks or at the delivery points are captured and reprocesses in the VRU and turned back into fuel. The VRU captures at least 97% of hydrocarbon gases and alongside a recycling effect has a near complete reduction of unnecessary emissions.
Making the harbour a safe place.
Even the servicing of tankers is undertaken with the utmost attention to safety. Our loading bays are constructed with a safety tank so that in the event of an accident a pneumatic barrier will immediately seal off the bay from the rest of the harbour.
Putting out fires before they start.
The HGM Terminal has a fully automated fire extinguishing system. The terminal is constructed in such a way as to allow for fire extinguishing in all parts of the plant, even those areas where fire fighters cannot reach.
